Who Are We?

The Ultimate Homestead is run by Andrew and Betty – an up and coming homesteader couple with a bright vision for the future.

To see 100,000 more people live a more holistic and sustainable life, all because of something they read on this site.

Andrew grew up in central New York on a 75-acre farm. Almost born and raised on a farm, you could say. Growing up on the farm allowed him to see that things come through hard work, dedication, and patience.

Betty grew up in the L.A. area of California. While her upbringing was almost the total opposite of Andrew's, she grew up with a passion for healthy living keeping fit, and nutrition. Even though she only had the space of a sidewalk, she and her younger brother managed to grow a variety of trees, bushes and even a little veggie patch.

After getting separated from the military for refusing the SARS-COV-2 vaccine, Andrew and Betty took on the project of building out Andrew's side hustle into a full-time income to keep them financially free and be able to to take on what they love:

Homesteading.

What Is The Ultimate Homestead?

The ultimate homestead is something that Andrew coined to mean something similar, but unique, to each and every individual person.

For Andrew and Betty, it's the homestead that they're building. It's the community that they've planned to establish (in a local area and online), to teach others how easy it is to grow your own food, live more sustainably, and enjoy a healthier and better quality of life.

But for others, it's coming to the realization that every person out in the world can start their own ultimate ‘homestead', wherever they are, with whatever they have.

It's realizing that you can help with less waste by composting organic material. It's realizing that you can grow a portion of your food most anywhere you are. It's realizing that no matter where you are in life, you need to start living like you're already there, if you want to see it happen.

Live Like You're Already There

The motto, Live like you're already there, was birthed by both Andrew and Betty deciding to start incorporating the tools and experience they would need to run an efficient homestead.

They practiced canning food, freezing fruits and milk, making bread and yogurt. They even started to change their diet to most things they could grow themselves.

Live like you're already there is the idea that whatever you want to do in the future, you need to start right now to work towards it.

Sure, you may want a homestead, and you're saving up for it, getting out of debt, and dreaming of all the things that you'll be able to do on it. But are gaining any experiences for it?

If you have lawn space, have you practiced growing anything?

Are you buying anything in bulk and practicing to preserving it?

Are you gaining the experience and knowledge right now to be able to do what you want in the future?

That's what the this site was design for – to help you find what you can incorporate right now, to better set you up for success in the future.

Meet the Authors

Hi! We’re Andrew and Betty, and welcome to The Ultimate Homestead.

We started this site because we like learning by doing. Sometimes it goes great. Other times, we learn the hard way. Either way, we write it down so you can skip the stress and get to the good part faster.

You’ll find helpful posts here about different aspects of homesteading such as gardening, raising chickens, food preservation and whatever we’re working on this season… We also share simple home projects and routines that can definitely make your homesteading life a whole lot easier.

Andrew

Owner of The Ultimate Homestead

Hi, I’m Andrew. I grew up on a farm, so growing food has been part of my life for a long time.

After Betty and I got married, we started growing and canning on our own land. More recently, when we bought our property, we put in 21 raised garden beds. We grew so much that we were able to can over 100 quart jars of produce.

On this site, I write the kind of blog posts I wish I had when we were figuring it out.

Betty

Co-owner of The Ultimate Homestead

Hi, I’m Betty. Before I met Andrew, I lived in California and started simple with just a few plants. I grew different fruits and learned as I went.

After we got married, I got deeper into food preservation and canning.

Now I share what we’re learning and the techniques that help us save more of what we grow.

If you’re trying to build a pantry and waste less food, you’ll feel right at home here.
